I am a member of the Highland Hose Co.
No. 1 Volunteer Fire Department situated in Tarentum, PA just 20 miles
northeast of Pittsburgh. I wish I would have know about your organization a
little over a month ago as my Company has become one of the chosen few to
lose a brother fireman in the line of duty. We were deeply saddened by
this tragic event. It is still very difficult for us to cope with this loss
and continue our jobs. I salute you for your support of any fallen brother
in the U.S. I know the support our department received was tremendous and
certainly appreciated.

I am a volunteer firefighter for a small town west of Fort Worth,
Texas. Last year we lost three firefighters in a church fire that was
set by someone. I don't get paid for what I do and respect those who
do. I grew up in Wickliffe Ohio, and my grandfather was chief of a
volunteer department in geauga county. He maybe in his 90's but is
still affiliated with the department. We all need to watch over all our
comrades shoulders everytime we are around them. Any tragedy is
unfortunate but to loose one of your own it really touches the heart.
Your tribute to those is wonderful.
Thank you and be safe.

Congratulations on an obviously successful band and a great website! I'm a
fire officer with Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, a suburban Portland (OR)
fire district, and pipe sergeant of the Portland Police Highland Guard. As
the only "red" guy in an otherwise "blue" band, it's nice to learn of other
fire pipe bands out there. Best wishes to your organization, and may you be
safe on the job.

As a Canadian of Scot ancestry, a 27 year veteran, and a former resident of
Rocky River, I congratulate you on your organization. The only thing that
could increase the pride I have in the Fire Service is to have a dedicated
Fire Service Pipe Band. When the hair bristles on the back of you neck, your
palms become damp, the shiver runs up you back, and a tear wells up at
viewing and listening to your home page, it is a marvelous testament to the
joining of two magnificent traditions; the Pipes and the Fire Service.
Sincerely,

November 13, 2001

Just been browsing USA fire related sites...came across your band info and photos.
I am a retired fireman from Manchester, England and my lifelong hobby has been playing in pipe bands. I was a Bass and Tenor drummer in the Mount Carmel Pipe Band, Salford, England. We were the only English pipe band to ever get into grade one of the Scottish Pipe Band Association, beating 2nd Battalion Scots Guards and the famous Red Hackle Pipe Band when in contest. Alas we no longer exist although some members are now playing with Greater Manchester Fire Service Pipe Band here in Manchester UK.
Had a laugh looking through some of your visits to Boston, lots of happy smiling faces, having a good old time....just shows me firemen and bagpipe players are the same the world over!!!!
Keep blowing!

I enjoy hearing bagpipes so much. It makes me think of my grandfather. His name is William Knox Urquhart. He arrived in the USA in 1921 from Scotland and settled in Cleveland to raise his family. He would be proud that you have chosen the Urquhart plaid for your kilts. Enjoyed your website. Hope to see you at the next festival.

Mere words are not enough.  God bless you all.  We salute you.  R.I.P. all the fallen heroes of 9/11.  Thank you to all the rescue workers everywhere in the world. Jenni Allison-Kirby, England, UK   September 10, 2002

Keep up the good work men. I like your photo from Worcester. Met a bunch of you guys in Colorado Springs in 2000. I will never forget the night the bands for Boston, Cleveland , Worcester, Orange County, and Mesa shut down the main drag and played in the streets. God bless you all.  Joe Gaffney, Worcester Fire Department
October 10, 2002

I am a Dayton firefighter and originally from the Cleveland Eastside. My
wife and I miss Cleveland very much and one of the things I miss the most is
seeing the band perform on St. Patrick's Day. Both of us are from Irish
families and were permitted to "stay home sick" on St. Patty's Day (as were
most kids from Catholic schools in Cleveland on that day) and I have fond
memories of seeing them then. We are going to move back soon (pending
another fire job) but I cannot wait to hear you guys play again for many
holidays to come.
Thomas Beers, Dayton Fire Department, Co. 15 "The Thrill on the Hill", November 11, 2002

Once again your group was a great addition to the annual remembrance of our fallen brothers here in Massillon.  Thank you for your continued participation in our event. Paul Markwood, Firefighter/Paramedic, Massillon Fire Department, IAFF Local 251, Massillon OH, December 1, 2002

Best wishes from an ex firefighter now working as a prison officer. I visit my family in the US every year and always try an visit a firehouse when I am there.

The John Ford Highland Pipe Band had great fun marching and playing with your band before the tunes of glory parade in Chicago.  Your website is great.  You might be interested in seeing ours, JFPB.org.  Clare Kujath, St. Louis, MO. May 6, 2003

Great site, and I really enjoyed playing with your band at the National Memorial last October.  Hope to see you in DC again soon.  Mark O'Donnell, Band Instructor, DCFD Pipes & Drums, Washington, DC, June 18, 2003

Cleveland Firefighter Mike Fink and I miss the comraderie and events.  Mike brought his pipes and has played at events held at our tent city for all services deployed.  The latest was a memorial for the 343 NYCFD killed during 9/11.  Our boat 25343 has it's last three numbers in red on the coxswain's console in their memory.  We remind ourselves daily - that is one of the reasons we are here in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  Mike and I hope to be back as soon as we are relieved by another unit or the mission is complete.  Mike Milkovich, Kuwait, September 13, 2003

Great site fellows and enjoys all you have here. But my thoughts are with you brothers for the times you are dealing with now with the current layoff you have had to suffer. Keep the faith, the citizens are the ones who are hurting the most along with you guys. Hang in there and hope to meet up with you fellows next year in DC. Be safe and stay low.  George M., Washingotn , DC, January 9, 2004

Great site. I have heard you guys in the past and think you're great. Hope you are playing at the Ohio Scottish Games this year. Your brother firefighter and piper, Daryl Davison, Eastern Knox County Joint Fire District, Unit 25, Danville, Ohio, June 9, 2004

It was an honor for me to get a chance to play with your band on St Patrick's Day 2004. I brought back alot of pleasant memories from that trip. You presence and participation in the funerals in Pittsburgh the next day was also greatly appreciated.  Rich Dodds, Imperial Pennsylvania, August 26, 2004

Hey guys, nice site!  Good job in Colorado Springs. It was a great time playing together. Especially showing them how it's done. Best regards- Joe Lennerton, Worcester Fire Brigade Pipes & Drums, September 27, 2004

I would like to thank you so much for attending Saint Patrick's Day at Saint Colman Church. All of you have a very great talent and the parishioners and spectators were just amazed how all of you played with precision and great timing. The bag pipes played at the Walk Now For Autism Day were fantastic...it brings also sad memories when my
Uncle: Vyt Zagarskas Cleve Police Officer died in a tragic traffic accident and at his funeral
the pipes were played at a distance and it was the sweetest sound I've ever heard and it
help put my heart to ease. Thank You for all you do for the community and for families...
